The Mater Hospital is a world class facility operating over 231 hospital beds and with our Maternity unit being voted the Best Private Maternity Unit in NSW, our experienced team of healthcare professionals, care givers and support staff are equipped to provide the highest level of therapeutic, medical and surgical services.

  

We have an available part-time position (0.8 FTE - clinical time) as a Student Midwife.

 

The Opportunity

 The opportunity is available for you to be a part of a thriving maternity unit and one of SVHA's private hospitals. The Maternity Unit consists of Ante-Natal, Post-Natal, a Delivery Suite and Special Care Nursery, and the opportunity for you to experience all of these specialty areas exists within this Student Midwifery Program. Maternity has a strong history at The Mater, and is one of the largest clinical units at our hospital being responsible for the majority of activity at The Mater. About You

 If you are a Registered Nurse wishing to pursue a career in midwifery, consider having your experience with The Mater. Midwifery encompasses primary health care principles as well as the emotional and social apects of the gestational and birthing process. As a student you will gain valuable experience in being able to apply these principles with support from the Clinical Nurse Educators,  Nurse Managers, Clinical Cooridnators, Mentors and experienced Midwives and interdisciplinary team members. We are looking for student midwives who have a passion for women's health, who are accountable clinicians and who will uphold the mission and values of The Mater Hopsital Sydney.

 

The candidate must:

•             Have an understanding of the role of the Midwife within a primary healthcare framework

•             Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the requirements of the training program, including the continuity of care experience

•             Demonstrate effective interpersonal written and verbal communication skills

•             Demonstrate the ability to think critically and be able to problem solve

•             Demonstrate an understanding of the collaboration across an interdisciplinary team

•             Understanding of WHS, Infection Control and Quality Improvement principles/activities
